Summertime Tips
Summertime brings with it many new injuries, including those to the mouth. Knowing when you need to be seen right away and when you can wait until the next morning or business day to call us is essential to a successful outcome. Here are a few tips, which we hope you never have to use, but are good to file away just in case!

Knocked out tooth - There are no qualms about it; if your tooth is completely knocked out, you need to call us right away. Timing is crucial in this case; simply place the tooth in milk or your own saliva (if you can store it in your cheek) and call us right away. We will inform you of the next steps to take.

Fractures - Depending on the severity of the fracture you experienced, you may need to be seen right away. This is especially true if the nerve is exposed and you are in extreme pain. Collect as much of the tooth particles as you can and call us for your next steps.

Lost crown - Sometimes lost crowns do not cause any pain and they can wait until we are in the office. But if you are experiencing tremendous pain, a call is warranted. We will help you to determine what steps you need to take to minimize the pain and rectify the situation as fast as possible.

Excessive pain - Sometimes tooth pain occurs and you do not know why. If you are unable to manage the pain with over-the-counter ibuprofen and ice on the outside of the area, call us so that we can help evaluate your situation and what you should do.

Celebrate 4th of July and Stay Hydrated!
The 4th of July means lots of celebrations that include plenty of food and drinks that we would not normally consume. While you deserve to go out and have a good time with family and friends, you should always keep your oral health at the forefront of your mind. Be extra cognizant about drinking plenty of water throughout your celebrations. Even if you do consume excessively sugary foods or drinks that you do not normally consume, the water you drink will help to wash away the acids, food debris, and bacteria that would otherwise eat away at your enamel, taking the fun out of your 4th of July celebrations!

Protect your Lips this Summer
Summertime is in full swing, which means plenty of swimming, outdoor parties, and sporting events. Even if you remember to slather up with sunblock, you might be overlooking one very important part of your body - your lips. In fact, your lower lip is at the greatest risk for sunburn, which means an increased risk for skin cancer, just because it sticks out! Rather than putting yourself at risk, make sure to apply lip balm with an SPF of at least 15 to put up a fight against skin cancer on your lips. Make it a daily habit to apply the lip balm several times a day and you will protect your lips from the damage of the sun’s UV rays with minimal effort!
