When Are Children Ready to Drink from Cups?
There are times for each type of container when it comes to feeding your child. Their first a baby drinks from is a bottle, and from there, the next step is to transition them to a sippy cup or trainer cup. However, how do you know when it is the right time to go from one type of container to the next? Here are a few things to consider when deciding to transition from a bottle to a sippy cup.

Transitioning Up to Sippy Cups

Every child is different. Some children take to using sippy cups right away, while others take longer. In general, it is best to transition to a training cup by your child’s first birthday to reduce your child’s risk of tooth decay.
Once your child is 8-9 months of age, you will likely start noticing signs that he or she wants to use cups instead of bottles for the majority of their drinks. It is because he or she sees you using a cup, and they like being just like mommy or daddy. If you notice your child trying to mimic you when you use a cup, you may want to try one out with them.

However, if your child is more resistant to using the sippy cup there are a few things you can try to help encourage them. As we mentioned above, kids often learn by mimicking what they see, so if they are not naturally copying you, try actively showing your baby how to use a cup while they are watching. You can also try using different types of cups to see which one your child likes best. There are cups with softer spouts or different shapes, so switching the type of cup may help your child get used to it.

Just like you did with food, watch for the signs and give your child time to adjust. While the transition might not be easy, it can help protect your child’s teeth in the long-run.

Do Your Kids Drink Too Much Juice?
Juice seems like a great beverage for kids because it has fruit in it. It's not soda or sugary alternatives, so it must be good, right? Well, yes, and no.

Drinking juice in moderation can be good for your family. If you are drinking the right type of juice, it can provide great nutritional value. However, juice can be acidic and still contains sugar, even if it's all natural. The daily recommendation for juice is 4-6 ounces each day, and even that should be watered down.

Show your kids that water is the best drink for everyone by being a good example to them. Make sure you get your water in each day, and they are more likely to follow suit.

Can a Cracked Tooth Leave Your Oral Health in Danger?
It's important to not put off a dental visit if you've had a mouth injury, even if the teeth appear to be intact. A cracked tooth is quite dangerous to leave untreated. First, a crack will only continue to grow when not treated properly. Second, and more importantly, it can let bacteria into the crack. This can grow into an infection, which could put the health of your mouth or even your whole body, at risk. If you have an obvious cracked tooth or think you may have one due to pain, please get it checked.
