Having healthy gums takes work. It doesn't just miraculously happen simply because you want it to. The way you take care of your mouth and what you eat have a significant impact on just how healthy, or unhealthy, your gums really are. If you are carefully maintaining your gum health with thorough brushing and flossing, then it is important you eat the right foods to make sure you are doing everything possible to keep your gums really healthy.

Snack Items to Regularly Consume for Healthy Gums

Produce should be your go-to snack if you want to have healthy gums. While it may not always taste as good as the sweet or starchy snacks and treats, it is far better for your body. Fruits are a great alternative if you are looking for a sweet snack, especially if you buy fruits that are in season. Also, don't forget about adding more vegetables into your diet since eating raw leafy greens and celery will help your gums stay healthy.

Ideally, you want to eat your produce with the skin on since the skin contains fiber that is beneficial to your overall health. This skin is what pushes on your gums, stimulating them to hold tight to your teeth. Plus, it scrubs off the tartar on your teeth with each bite you take.

Oral Piercings Are Not Good for Your Teeth
Oral piercings give you the opportunity to express yourself in a unique way. However, they also have the opportunity to cause damage to your teeth. The more your oral piercing moves around in your mouth, the more chances there are for the piercing to hit your teeth. This can just tap your tooth and only cause a little moment of pain, or it can become a much bigger problem.

Oral piercings often cause cracks and chips to teeth when they come in contact. It may be difficult to tell if any damage was done to the teeth until the pain starts, especially if your piercing is on your tongue. This puts the damage to your teeth on the inside of your teeth, making it hard for you to see it. While some people may not experience tooth damage, it is important to know the potential risks if you are considering an oral piercing or currently have one.

4 Reasons that Your Gums Are Receding
Have you noticed that your gums are pulling away from your teeth? There are several factors that could be causing this issue:

• Gum disease. The most common cause of gum recession, periodontal disease will destroy the gum tissue.
• Grinding. If you have a habit of grinding the teeth, the unnecessary pressure that you put on your mouth could cause the gums to recede.
• Aggressive brushing. If you brush or floss too hard, you could be causing trauma to your gums, resulting in receding tissues.
• Hormonal changes. Women are at a greater risk of developing gum disease during certain hormonal changes, such as pregnancy or menopause, and the result could be receding gums.
